Gather Around

Fire Pits.

Custom stone and gas fire features that become the heart of your backyard -- from cool fall evenings to crisp winter nights.

The Dream

The best conversations happen around a fire. Always have.

There's something primal about gathering around a fire. Phones go away. Conversations get deeper. Kids roast marshmallows. Neighbors wander over. It's the one feature that turns a backyard into a destination -- not just in summer, but twelve months a year in Michigan.

Right now, you might be dragging out a rusty portable fire pit from the garage, balancing it on the grass, and hoping the wind doesn't blow smoke directly into everyone's face. Or maybe you're one of the homeowners in Clinton Township or Chesterfield who looks out at a perfectly good patio and thinks "this needs something" -- but you're not sure what.

A custom built fire pit transforms your outdoor space from a place you walk through into a place you sit down and stay. It extends your outdoor season by months. And when it's time to sell, it's the feature that makes buyers fall in love.

The Nelligan's Difference

Permanent. Beautiful. Safe. Built to code with premium materials.

Our fire pits are permanent stone or block structures built right into your patio or landscape. Choose from natural stone, Unilock block, or custom masonry finishes that match your home's architecture and your existing hardscape.

We offer both wood-burning and gas-fed fire pits. Gas fire pits connect to your home's natural gas line for instant on/off convenience -- no ash, no smoke, no hassle. Wood-burning pits deliver that classic campfire experience with a permanently vented fire bowl.

Every fire pit includes proper fire-rated construction, drainage considerations, and safe clearances. We've built fire features across Shelby Township, Washington Township, Sterling Heights, and Troy -- always to code, always built to last.

FAQ

Fire pit questions

Gas or wood-burning -- which should I choose?

Gas is cleaner, instant on/off, and produces no smoke -- great if you have close neighbors or prefer convenience. Wood-burning gives you the classic campfire experience with crackling sounds and natural warmth. Many homeowners in Shelby Township and Macomb Township go with gas for ease of use.

How far does a fire pit need to be from the house?

Most municipal codes require at least 10-15 feet from any structure. We design every fire pit to meet or exceed local setback requirements. Don't worry about the details -- we handle all code compliance during the design phase.

Can I use a fire pit in winter?

Absolutely -- that's one of the best parts. Gas fire pits work year-round with the push of a button. Wood-burning pits are even more magical with snow on the ground. A properly built fire pit handles Michigan winters without any issues.

Do I need a fire pit pad or can it go on grass?

We always recommend a paver or stone pad underneath your fire pit for safety, aesthetics, and longevity. We can build the fire pit as part of a new patio or create a standalone pad that connects to your existing hardscape.
