Custom deck and pergola structure
Extend Your Living Space

Decks & Gazebos.

Custom wood and composite decks, pergolas, and gazebo structures that extend your home into the outdoors -- from spring through fall.

The Problem

Your backyard is beautiful. You're just not spending any time in it.

You look out the back door and see potential -- but the reality is you spend maybe 10% of your free time actually outside. Why? Because stepping out onto grass or a bare concrete slab doesn't feel like being home. There's nowhere comfortable to sit, no shade from the afternoon sun, no transition space between your house and the yard.

Homeowners across Macomb Township, Rochester Hills, and Troy all say the same thing: "We have this great yard and we never use it." A deck changes that equation overnight. Suddenly you have a morning coffee spot, an evening reading nook, a place to grill and eat without going inside. A gazebo means you don't run indoors the second it drizzles.

And that rotting deck from the '90s? It's not just ugly -- it's a safety hazard and a liability. Soft boards, rusty nails, wobbly railings. It's time for something that actually makes you want to go outside.

The Nelligan's Difference

Cedar, Trex, TimberTech -- we build with materials that last Michigan seasons.

Whether you want the natural warmth of premium cedar or the zero-maintenance durability of Trex and TimberTech composite, we build decks that stand up to Michigan's brutal winters and humid summers without warping, splitting, or fading.

Every deck starts with properly sized footings, pressure-treated framing, and code-compliant connections. We don't use shortcuts on structure -- because the last thing you want is a deck that bounces when you walk on it or pulls away from the house in three years.

Our gazebo structures are engineered to handle snow loads, wind uplift, and everything Michigan weather throws at them. From simple shade structures to fully enclosed three-season rooms, we build spaces you can actually use from April through November.

FAQ

Deck & gazebo questions

Wood or composite -- which is better?

It depends on your priorities. Wood (cedar) costs less upfront and has a natural look, but requires annual staining/sealing. Composite costs more initially but is virtually maintenance-free and carries 25+ year warranties. We'll help you weigh both options during your free estimate.

Do I need a permit for a deck?

Yes, almost all deck projects in Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne County require a building permit. We handle the entire permit process as part of our service -- drawings, applications, inspections.

How long does a deck build take?

Most residential decks take 1-2 weeks from start to finish, depending on size and complexity. Gazebos add another 3-5 days. We'll provide a clear timeline during the planning phase.

Can you replace my old deck?

Absolutely. We handle full tear-down and removal of your existing deck, then build the new one from scratch. In some cases, if the substructure is still sound, we can re-deck over the existing framing to save time and cost.
